This special issue aims at the theories, policies and methodologies on contemporary architecture and urban environments to raise the understanding for the future of architectural and urban planning, offering practical design options and review; both in theory and actual case studies in smart, sustainable, and healthy urban development.

All papers should be submitted via the Architecture and Design Review submission system:

Submitted articles should not be published or under review elsewhere. All submissions will be subject to the journal’s standard peer review process. Criteria for acceptance include originality, contribution, scientific merit and relevance to the field of interest of the Special Issue.

The Lead Guest Editor

Hasim Altan

Professor and Chair of the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Sharjah (UOS) in the UAE. He is a Chartered Architect (Royal Institute of British Architects) and a Chartered Engineer (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers - UK) with 20 years of academic and practice experience in the field of Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment in UK, Europe and Middle East through large research consortiums exceeding £20 million (€23 million) with extensive focus on Energy Efficiency Strategies for Buildings and Retrofitting, funded by programmes like the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the EU FP7. As well as having supervised 14 successful PhD research, Prof. Dr. Altan has published over 200+ refereed journal and conference papers in related fields.
